California Denies They Jumped Through Trump’s Hoops to Get Coronavirus Aid
Democrats aren’t big on two things: Trump or saying ‘thank you’ when Trump does something for them. That’s why Governor Newsom is about as tight-lipped as he can be now that it has come out that he had to secure coronavirus aid from who he deems to be public enemy number one.
A report came out that the White House conditioned getting coronavirus aid on two things – asking President Trump directly and thanking him. Realistically, these aren’t hard to ask.
It does, however, mean that the Dems will have to realize that Trump is the leader of the U.S. and that they have to ask him for help.
Newsom doesn’t want to appear weak. So, he has said that it’s “untrue” that he had to do these things. On April 22, however, Newsome did hold a press conference and praise Trump for agreeing to the request that California made.
When thousands of swabs showed up in California, Newsom said that it was a “promise made, promise kept.” Oh, what’s that now?
Newsom didn’t want to praise the president. He would rather continue using the same rhetoric as so many other Dems: not my president. However, it’s important that the governor make sure that the state has what it needs – through the pandemic and beyond.
It’s hard for the Dems to admit that they need the president’s help. They don’t want to ask for help. They want to do everything on their own. The problem is that Trump isn’t just a Republican.
He’s the president. You know, the one that people voted for in 2016 instead of Hillary Clinton. So, as much as the Democratic governors don’t want Trump’s help, they need it. It’s all because of the position.
Newsom needed help. To get it, he had to ask for Trump’s help. And Trump used that position to ensure that he would get the help that he needed, too.
All Newsom had to do was say, “thank you.” Newsom just didn’t want to admit that to the press. Having to admit that he said ‘thank you’ to the president in front of the liberal press must have been a slow and painful death to the lib governor’s ego. After all, those two words are so powerful. It’s like coaxing a little kid to not only say ‘thank you’ but also to ‘say it like you mean it.’
Newsome knows how to follow the rules, though. He expressed his gratitude. However, he still holds firm that “no one told me to express it.” Sure, whatever. As long as you said it, that’s good enough for the Trump officials.
Trump has also managed to reap some political windfall from those two little words. The praise that came from Newsom was shared with Twitter followers. A clip from the governor was also included in some of the presidential re-election ads. Having those little nuggets of praise from such a liberal governor has made an impact.
Newsom will need to simply accept this. For someone who doesn’t like to ask for help, it has to happen from time to time. It’s not all about take, take, take. When you need a favor, you know who you need to ask. He may not like it, but he doesn’t have to. And, he has to say ‘thank you’ because that’s what respectful people do.
Governor Gavin Newsom has been wearing his mask and looking to help the people of California. His state started out as the model of how to beat the pandemic. But, then, too many of his mayors wanted to open up the economy. Then, swoosh. The numbers across the state began to climb.
At least, now, Newsom has the supplies he needs. And, if he needs a bit more aid, he knows who he can ask to get the help, whether he wants to admit that he needs the help of President Trump or not.
