It will never cease to amaze me just how hypocritical the left can be. One minute they are calling down fire against our President and the very next they are demanding that he be given dictatorship like power. And I’m not exaggerating one bit about this either.
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump signed the Defense Production Act. It was created in 1950 at a time when the Second World War has just come to an end and when the Korean War was about to begin.
Steve Ganyard, an ABC News contributor and former deputy assistant secretary of state, says, “It was based on lessons learned by the U.S. in the early days of World War II when massive mobilization of industrial resources and control of raw materials were required.”
According to ABC News, “The executive branch, under this law, can essentially dictate industry production and force companies to sign contracts telling them how to allocate materials. The President can also impose wage and price controls, settle labor disputes and control consumer and real estate credit, among other authorities given by the law.”
However, while President Trump has signed it, which allows him to use those powers should he deem them necessary, he has stated that he will only use it in “a worst-case scenario in the future.” He said that it is basically a backup plan for when things get really bad. “Hopefully, there will be no need, but we are all in this together.”
But House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her cohorts are begging him to use the law now. She made a statement Thursday saying, “Right now, shortages of critical medical and personal protective equipment are harming our ability to fight the coronavirus epidemic, endangering frontline workers and making it harder to care for those who fall ill.”
She added, “The President must immediately use the powers of the Defense Production Act to mass-produce and coordinate distribution of these critical supplies before the need worsens and the shortages become even more dire.”
Does anyone else notice the strange sense of irony at play here? Or is it just me?
Isn’t this the same woman who, in December of last year, a mere few months ago, pushed for President Trump to be impeached? She nearly single-handedly led the charge for his removal from office, claiming that he was not fit for office, racist, and was nearly a dictator.
Just read her tweet from December 18.
“It is a matter of fact that the president is an ongoing threat to our national security, and the integrity of our elections – the basis of our democracy.”
Now, as well all know, she lost that battle. While she was able to get the House to impeach him, the Senate acquitted him all charges.
And a mere two months later, she is pushing him to take all the dictator-like power the President’s office can handle.
So either she never really thought he was incapable of his job in the first place and simply wanted more power for herself or she has miraculously had a change of heart.
Because who in their right mind who knowingly gives more power to someone who wants dictator-like power, especially if you didn’t like their politics?
This also proves just what type of leader Pelosi is. Rather than making efforts in her home state and with her national connections to get things done, she would rather put it all in Trump’s lap.
All around the nation, wealthy and political individuals and companies are stepping up, donating their time, money, and all sorts of other resources to increase the production of necessary supplies and get more COVID-19 tests out there. GM has offered to build ventilators instead of cars, and GE has increased its output of ventilators, as well as added a whole slew of other medical supplies to their assembly lines.
Pelosi, on the other hand, is essentially running for hills, just like her governor, at this point. She says our “worst-case scenario” is here, not imagining that things can and will get worse. At the first sign of trouble, she goes into hiding and trying to do so behind a man she said she could never trust and who would ruin our nation.
Only time will tell if Trump decides to use these powers as Pelosi wants. In the meantime, I full confidence that our Commander in Chief will make the right decisions.
