As the 2020 presidential election moves ever closer, we have begun to see a rather scary trend and one that, if allowed to succeed, would be the end of our democracy and our freedoms. The first and most significant part of this is the Democrats’ tendency to continuously drift to the left of the political spectrum.
Already we have presidential candidates that talk about making the United States of America into a socialist nation, with the government essentially holding all the power. Sure, they are going to give you free education, free healthcare, and even help with housing, but at what cost? It means there will be no choices for the people to make. They get what the government hands out, and that’s it. There is no room to make something special of yourself, no American dream, no individuality.
But your choice isn’t all they would take.
These same candidates and left-leaning supporters also want to take away our constitutional rights, mainly our Second Amendment. And without that right, there would be absolutely nothing to stop them from taking everything else you have and moving even farther to the left, say to communism or worse, which by the way is only one step farther than the socialism that Bernie Sanders and AOC tout.
To make sure we understand what our nation could look like if they win, let’s look at a society where similar movements have succeeded — the Republic of China.
The government of China has decidedly been communism for as long as just about anybody alive can really remember.
There, the government has the right to make rules as they see fit, without regard for the average person or community. Sure, they try to do what is right for their nation but not necessarily for their people.
Case and point: the people are not allowed to arm themselves.
Firearms are strictly prohibited from the civilian population, with only military and law enforcement allowed to carry them.
So as the city of Hong Kong is trying to gain its independence from the communist government, the people are left with nothing to protect themselves or fight with.
Well, nearly nothing. While the police are loaded with live-action rounds and an unending supply of ammo, protesters only have the elements they can find around them, which in comparison is pretty much medieval.
Bows and arrows, javelins, and rocks are now being used to combat the police’s brutal treatment and the government’s constant threats.
Sources say these rudimentary weapons are being taken from universities, sporting goods stores, and even private collections in an attempt to ward off an enemy that has superior technology and tools.
Just look at these posts:
Reuters said, “Protestors in Hong Kong armed themselves with javelins and bows and arrows following savage overnight clashes with police, who war the city is on the brink of collapse.”
And while these weapons may be able to do some damage, they do little to actually protect against the bullets, riot shields, and armored vehicles standing against them.
Their desperation has led to some ingenious, if not radical, solutions. CNN even recently documented the use of makeshift catapults by some protesters. Bamboo tied together with elastic bands, and zip ties catapult rocks, bricks, and firebombs into the fray of the riot police.
CNN reports, “During the siege of Hong Kong Polytechnic University, protesters have used a range of weapons to hold off riot police: At the fortified campus, CNN saw how protestors used a makeshift bamboo catapult to slingshot petrol bombs at police lines.”
Another news outlet stated, “Fresh protests, medieval methods,” to describe the ongoing chaos of Hong Kong.
“With wooden catapults to launch petrol bombs and bows and arrows pilfered from sports departments, Hong Kong’s democracy demonstrators are combining new tactics with ancient tech as they battle police.”
These people are merely fighting for their freedom and their rights. They believe they have the right to stand up for their beliefs and demand a government that listens to them, just as we do.
But with such a limited supply of weapons, and ancient ones at that, their independence may be nothing more than a dream.
And if we aren’t careful, we could find ourselves in the same boat in years to come. The left would like nothing more than to take over our nation and render us helpless to their whims.
If we are to remain free, we must keep our Second Amendment.
