As one of our nation’s most famous symbol, the Bald Eagle represents a free and independent America. It was chosen to be our national bird because of its great strength, fearlessness, and resilience in the face of an unforgiving land. And yet not everyone was thrilled with the choice of the eagle as our nation’s most widely accepted symbol.

Founding father, Benjamin Franklin wrote, “I wish the Bald Eagle had not been chosen the Representative of our Country.” He reasoned that “He is a Bird of bad moral Character. He does not get his Living honestly. You may have seen him perched on some dead Tree near the river, where, too lazy to fish for himself, he watches the Labour of the Fishing Hawk; and when that diligent bird has at length taken a Fish and is bearing it to his Nest for the Support of his Mate and young Ones, the Bald Eagle pursued him and takes it from him.”

However, the bird’s obvious character flaws have not prevented it from being held in one of the highest places of honor in America. There are laws to protect it, its habitats, and it’s young, even those that are unborn.

And yet, for some reason, humans are not given the same consideration or rights.

Why do you suppose that is?

Let’s look at a recent study conducted in Echo Park in Los Angeles.

Will Witt of PragerU went around the area and asked people to consider signing two separate petitions.

For the first one, Witt said, “We have a petition to stop the killing of eagles, like eagle eggs. People disturb them or destroy them. These eagles haven’t been born yet; they have rights, you know?”

He continued saying, “We don’t think that they should be harmed and we think that there should be harsher penalties for those kinds of things. Would you guys agree?”

To this, most whole-heartedly agreed. Some said, “Don’t kill eagles” and “eagles are people, too.” While others said, “Best of luck, I hope you save the eagles.”

Then he would present the next petition.

Witt would say something like, “We have one other petition about stopping the killing of humans, too – like babies.”

However, before he could continue, most would cut him off with responses like, “Oh, no, I don’t agree. I fully support abortion” or “eagles aren’t raped.”

When asked why Witt heard one woman say “I think it’s the mother’s decision.” Another said, “A human being should have more rights probably than a bald eagle. Abortion.”

One person said, “I don’t think eagles have a lot of opinions.”

One woman even said that “babies are gross.” She continued by saying, “You know what it does to your body? You’re not a woman, so you have no idea.”

And yet to her, the petition about eagles was “fun.” Has she considered what bearing eagle eggs do to a female eagle? Obviously not. They too grow larger, having much of their bodies change, all to push out not just one but up to four eggs at once.

But of course, it is all about the mother’s choice. And yet that very phrase, “mother’s choice,” insinuates that a baby, a young human, a person who deserves care, attention, and love is alive. And yet the left would argue that that simply isn’t the case, even if there is a beating heart, brain functions, and movement.

To those, it is merely a fertilized egg, right? With no feelings, “opinions” or anything else that matters.

It’s no different than an eagle egg, waiting to hatch a young, innocent, and very much alive eaglet.

And yet we see a difference somehow. One, a mere bird, is to be protected, kept from harm’s way, and allowed to live out its life, no matter to how mama eagle feels about having her body and life invaded by young, needy creatures. While the other, a human child, is given absolutely no consideration and allowed to be killed all because maybe it didn’t match up with mom’s plans at the moment, or because she didn’t want stretch marks.

Talk about a double standard. But what else should we expect from the left? They bleed hypocritically, I’m sure of it.
