The President of the United States has started seeking a way to make changes to the current asylum system.
The current system is said by some to have problems and is tainted with fraud.
The current systems allow for applicants to be charged a fee and settle their applications while at the same time keeping them from finding work within the United States.
Attorney General William Barr and Kevin McAleenan, current acting Homeland Security Secretary, were informed by the President that the southern border has become a place of crisis.
The current situation at the border is reaching a tipping point that must be dealt with.
More and more people are pressing against the border with the goal of stretching the system to the breaking point.
It has been recorded that the number of people that are being detained has gone up significantly is recent months.
Numbers indicate that there have been around 100,000 arrests or people denied entry into the country.
This is a new record within the past 12 years.
There are now 800,000 cases that are waiting to be resolved and finalized because of the number of people trying to come into the country.
The President seems to have a clear picture of what is happening at the border.
He has sent a message to Barr and McAleenan that stated, “The extensive resources required to process and care for these individuals pulls U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel away from securing our Nation’s borders.”
The White House is soon expected to ask Congress for extra funding to help alleviate the bad environment developing at the southern border by way of care of detainees.
Some numbers at the border are seen that 12 people will be granted entrance into the country based on an asylum claim from every 100 people seeking entry into the country.
Nearly 50 percent of those coming to the border are not even asking for asylum.
Many of the applicants that are seeking entrance into the country are turned down and sent back.
The vast number of applicants of asylum may not even receive an answer for at least a year because of the shear number of people filling out the application.
The Asylum law is in place to offer help to those that are truly fleeing persecution.
Even those fleeing persecution have a limit number of approval sources to be permitted in the country.
Political refugees and persecution of religion are some exceptions for approval of asylum.
Those entering on grounds of a better life or poverty are often denied.
They might fair better to enter the country legally by becoming a citizen of the country.
To combat the problem President Trump has tightened the list to just a few approval conditions of asylum entry.
To expand the law like former President Obama had done, just opened the Asylum Law up to being abused by would be illegals looking to exploit the system.
The cost of the all the illegal immigration is taking its toll on counties that share the border with Mexico.
The President also wants to see people that have tried to enter illegally to be denied work permits to keep them from benefiting from their illegal actions.
When a person is detained they are held until they can be exported back to their homeland.
Those that are allowed to enter pending their application approval are said to never show up to court.
The number of people not showing up in the first three months was about 17,200 cases. These numbers are expected to only increase unless something is done to fix the southern border issues.
The President has a large task ahead of him and the 202 election if he is seeking to fix the border issues.
The President has asked DHS to adjust its personnel numbers, “to improve the integrity of adjunction of credible and reasonable fear claims, to strengthen the enforcement of the immigration laws, and to ensure complains with the law by those aliens who have final orders of removal.”
This is no small task given the amount of people they have to work with.
Fixing the border would go a long way to helping the President win the 2020 election.
There is no doubt that the 2020 election is on the President’s mind.
But even greater than that is his concern about the security of the country from those that would seek to do harm from within.
